WELCOME BACK & "LET'S BE GREAT IN '08- TOGETHER!" 
 
Dear Parents and Students: 
 
I hope you each had a relaxing and peaceful Christmas break. Now, it is time for a new beginning of lessons to be learned in our journey together at LMS. Thank you for the opportunity to have your child as a student.  
 
Here is what we will be covering for the 3rd 9 Weeks: 
1. Response to Literature/ Author Study: S.E. Hinton. 
2. Analyzing & Creating Nonfiction Texts. 
3. CRCT Preparation/ Standards Review. 
 
CONTESTS: LMS Spelling Bee on January 18th. 
Our classroom winners who will participate: Brice Cleverley, Rebecka Tennant, Lindsey Wallin, Kerri Jennett, and Shelly Moser. Way to Go and Good Luck!!!! 
 
A Typical Day in ELA: 
1. D.O.L.- Grammar 
2. Journal- Writing 
3. Vocabulary- CRCT Terms to Know 
4. SSR- 15 minutes 
5. Literature Circles: Reading & Writing in groups of 4-6

HOMEWORK: Students will be responsible to complete 5 books and 3 assessments. Reading time and pages must be recorded on their Reading log. This reading will be accomplished with SSR-15 minutes each day and at least 30 minutes each night. 
 
Tuesday-8th: Introduction to Literature Circles using a short story. 
Wednesday-9th: complete and discuss Roles. 
Thursday-10th: TestGate testing. 
Friday-11th: Literature Circle writing assignments. 
 
Monday-14th: Media Center/Students will choose their top 2 S.E.Hinton novels.
