The PE classes are starting a Flag Football--Ultimate Frisbee Unit. When the weather cooperates students will go outside to play Ultimate Frisbee or Flag Football. Students chose their own teams of 12 where they will either go outside to play the above activities or stay inside to play Wiffle ball, Four Square or basketball.

The students are working on a unit entitled "What's wrong with Meth." The unit discussed various information about the usage of meth in the United States and how meth has an effect on us locally too. Students discussed the "whys and hows", dangers and problems associated with the methamphetamine empidemic.

Health classes are studying the effects of Alcohol on the body. Students will study the various types of Alcohol and the ways they are used in society. With the increase of deaths caused by binge drinking, it is necessary for today's youth to know the dangers of alcohol.

Health classes are studying the Human Skeletal System, the functions of bones, types of bones, the scientific terms for the bones and will label the skeletal system.

The 7th grade physical educations students are beginning a double elimination volleyball tournament this week. Seeding for the tournament were determined by the round robin tournament which the students have been playing for the last two weeks. The double elimination tournament will last the next two weeks.

Students in 7th grade Physical Education classes are beginning a Volley Unit for the next three weeks. At the end of he unit, a round robin tournament will be held to determine the class winners of the unit. Students will create their own teams of 8 or 9 players on a team and have the chance to demonstrate their skills during the tournament.  
Also the students will be graded using a Volleyball Rubric which will be sent home with the students for the parents to see how well their child is doing in class.  
After the unit, the student will take a written test on the rules, playing procedures and history of the sport.

The second unit in Life Skills will begin this week. Students will learn facts dealing with the usage of tobacco products, the harmful effects of tobacco products and ways a student can successfully say no to the use of tobacco.

Health classes are finishing Chapter 1 and beginning Chapter two which deals with the Human Body Systems. Students will learn various bones from the Skeletal System along with information about the Circulatory, Digestive, Immune, Central Nervous System and Respiratory Systems.

Welcome back to a fun filled, exciting new year at La Fayette Middle School.  
I hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe Holiday break.  
 
Just a reminder that students who are enrolled in our Physical Education classes at LMS should bring clothes to dress out each day they come to P.E. class.  
 
Once again our grading system is composed of the following catergories:  
 
Dressing Out ---counts 25 percent of the grade.  
Participation in class--- counts 50 percent of the grade.  
Written assignment---counts 25 percent of the grade.

The Health classes are finishing up the last two weeks of the semester. A comprehensive final will be given next Monday and Tuesday to finalized this semester of Health.  
 
Any make-up work needs to be turned in before the end of the day on Wednesday.

Students are finishing their Life Skills books this week and will turn them in for a final grade next week. The end of the semester comprehensive test will be given next Monday and Tuesday.

I have really enjoyed meeting and getting to know my students that are in Life Skills. I do hope they enjoyed the class and developed the skills that will aide them throughout their life.

The next unit is Advertising. Students will explore how ads effect them, what a target group is and the difference between the various cost of Name Brand items versus Generic Brand items. The benefits of advertising for the consumers since everyone is a consumer, how can ads help the students select what is best for them?

The Health classes are started Chapter 7--Dangerous/Contagious Diseases. With the Flu season approaching soon, this chapter will aide the students in recognizing the factors that may put them in risk of contacting the flu virus, common colds and how they can become more safe in their environment.
