What a great start! Christmas break must have been good, because we have come back ready to work!
We are almost half-way through our book "Roberto Clemente". Each day, the class has chosen 5 new words from the chapter, predicted a definition, and then checked to see if the prediction was correct. We've also had journal entries for each chapter. This week is devoted to the book and to spelling:
MONDAY - Introduce spelling lesson 20; Check vocabulary from chapter 4; Journal entry - "Do you think the Dodgers treated Roberto fairly? Why or why not?"
Homework - Read chapter 5 and write guesses for 5 vocabulary words, based on context.
TUESDAY - Spelling classwork; Check chapter 5 vocabulary; Journal entry - "How would you feel about Roberto if you were the shortstop on his team?"
Homework - Read chapter 6 and write guesses for 5 vocabulary words.
WEDNESDAY - Check chapter 6 defintions; Journal entry - "Free Choice: Tell me anything you think or feel about this chapter."Rd. chapter 7 and do 5 vocabulary guesses.
Homework - Spelling pp. 123AB, 124AC, 125A, Journal entry 7 - "Write a short newspaper article about the 1971 World Series."
THURSDAY - Review spelling; Check journal entry 7; Take notes for narrative
Homework - Read chapter 8 and do 5 new words; Study spelling 20
FRIDAY - Spelling Quiz 20; Journal entry 8 - "Now that you have read the book, what do you think of Roberto Clemente?"; Start chronological narrative on Clemente
