Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well. In music this week we have finished talking about musicals for 7th and 8th grade and have begun talking about a new composer- George Frideric Handel, and will finish the topic at the beginning of next week. We will follow this by talking about the music genre "Rock n' Roll". We will begin talking about musicals next week with 6th grade.
In chorus this week we have finished up our "fix it" lists for each song we are singing for the concert. We have begun watching clips from the musicals we are singing songs from so that students have something to compare the songs to. I sent home flyers with all chorus students telling the details for the concert. It is May 15th. Students are to report at 5:30 for a sound check and roll call so that they may get credit for their test grade. The concert will begin promptly at 6:30. Students are to wear Sunday clothes. No blue jeans if possible. If it is unavoidable, please dress them up as nice as possible. We will be holding a small reception after the concert. Students need to bring their favorite dessert. If it happens to be a bag of oreos, that is fine. If students need another paper, I have them available.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Fordney

We are watching the radar to see if any bad weather is going to hit during game time. If anything happens and we should have to cancel we will make an announcement at school.

Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well. In music classes this week most students have finished up their melody projects and they look fantastic. Next week we will begin our unit on musical instruments.
Chorus rehearsals are going well. We are narrowing down our songs to a few minor things that need adjusting. We are just over a month away from our concert. A letter will go home after testing concerning the details of the concert. Students are also working on sight reading music. I hope that students will have a very relaxed weekend before testing begins.

Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well. In music this week students are working on their melodies. There is some great song writing going on. Everyone is progressing well. This is a major project and it will continue into next week. In chorus this week students have been learning a fourth song for the concert and it is coming along nicely as well. It will be a fantastic show. After CRCT's I am going to send home a letter stating the date, time, place, and what students will need to wear. The date is May 15th at 6:30 p.m., at LaFayette Middle School's main campus in the gym. I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful weekend.

Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well. In music this week students have been working on their melodies and they are coming along beautifully. They have been given worksheet packets that will be worth one quiz grade, to assist them with their project. The melody project will be worth a major test grade so encourage your students to do well on it.
In chorus this week we have been working on some sight-reading. Sight-reading is where you take a piece you have never seen before and sing it the best you can. It helps students follow the direction of the notes they are singing. We also have worked more on our concert pieces which are coming along nicely. Just as a reminder report cards go home today.
I hope everyone has a pleasant and restful spring break!

Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well. In music this week we have been doing listening activities for our unit on Ludwig van Beethoven. Students were able to play the piano and hear what it was like at full volume and then what it was like to gradually lose volume and go deaf. Students compared two of his songs by drawing what each song made them think of and how it made them feel. Finally, students wrote their own version of Beethoven's last will and testament to his brothers when he realized his hearing would never recover. Next week we will begin talking about how to write music. Students owing make-up work for being absent have been told what it is and should turn it in next week as grades are made historical for report cards on Friday.
In chorus classes we have finished working through the song "I'm a Believer", featured in the movie "Shrek". Students are progressing very well with harmony and rhythms. We also have begun working in workbooks again and will do so until the beginning of May.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful weekend.

Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well. In music this week we have began our study of Ludwig von Beethoven. We have discussed different periods in his life including the most traumatic one where he became deaf. We will be doing several activities to reinforce the concepts next week.
In chorus this week we have prepared our second song for the concert and have come close to preparing song three. All of the students are getting excited for the performance.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. This week in music classes we are doing several activities to back up our unit on country music. Students are writing out a quiz of 20 questions using the notes we took on people and eras of country we talked about. Students are also coming up with lyrics for a country song about LMS. Finally we will be going to the computer lab next week so that students may look up and list five facts about a country artist of their choice. The facts can be things like where the artist is from, who inspired them to sing, why they like country music, do they have any training in the classical genre, etc. As soon as these activities have been completed we will begin talking about the composer Ludwig van Beethoven.
In chorus classes, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are receiving quiz results. Those who missed the quiz due to absence will be allowed to make up the quiz. This week we are working on several songs as concert possibilities. Our theme for the concert is musicals and some of the songs we are working on are: "Do Re Mi" from "The Sound of Music", "Kiss the Girl" from "The Little Mermaid", "Once Upon a December" from "Anastasia. Last week we worked through the song "My Favorite Things" from "The Sound of Music" completely and are doing very well with it. This will not be a concert to miss. I hope everyone has a great week.
