I want to thank you for helping get LMS / LMA off to such a successful beginning! As you are aware, the 8th grade just concluded the ITBS and CogAT testing. You may be curious as to why we are testing at such an early time of the year. The answer is that nationally normed test data is required by the state. We look forward to receiving the results and plan to use the data to identify and meet the instructional needs of your children. You should be receiving your child’s results soon.

I also want to thank you for the strides made in student attendance last year. In 2006-07 LMS had only 8% of its students that were considered truant (missing more than 15 days of school). That is a 22% decrease from the 30% that were truant in 2004. Way to go parents and students!

We all know that high academic achievement is commiserate with good attendance and here is some evidence:
CRCT scores from 2005 to 2007:
(Percentages below represent students meeting / exceeding standards)
Subject: 2005 2007 Difference:
Reading 79% 88% up 9%
ELA 69% 87% up 18%
Math 60% 71% up 11%

Parents please stay informed of your child’s grades and school activities by going online to http://www.walkerschools.org/lms/ and check their teachers’ weblogs and your child’s grades
