PHYSICAL SCIENCE SYLLABUS  
8TH Grade

➢ Primary Textbook: Introduction to Physical Science  
 
➢ Class Objective/Goal: Students will understand the main topics related to Physical Science and be able to apply the scientific method.  
 
➢ Topics of Study: Using scientific method, structure of matter, force and motion, transformations of energy, awareness of the elements on the Periodic Table, electricity, and magnetism.  
 
➢ Supplies: Students will be required to bring their school agendas to class everyday. Students will be using spiral notebooks for science vocabulary and writing assignments. These will be provided and kept in the classroom. Colored folders will also be provided for individual portfolios and kept in the classroom. Any additional supplies needed throughout the school year will be addressed at a later date.  
 
➢ Curriculum: There is a new approach being used this year regarding the Georgia Performance Standards. Students are now being asked to apply his or her “learned knowledge” instead of stating facts. This opens up more opportunity for performance task assignments throughout the school year. If you have any questions regarding this new curriculum, please contact me.  
 
➢ Grading System: Homework/Classwork – (weight x 1)
