7th Grade - Life Science
Guidelines and Procedures
Course Description - This course is designed to teach concepts of biology and basic chemistry related to biological process incorporating laboratory skills and scientific reasoning. Students will learn to explain diversity of living organisms, how organisms are classified, and heredity. They will explore the make-up of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems. Ecosystems will be studied to explain the cycling of matter and energy in our world. Students will also participate in activities where they are expected to keep records of their observations and use those records to analyze data and represent findings with charts and graphs.
Georgia Performance Standards for 7th Grade Life Science will be taught during this course. Please refer to the Georgia Performance Standards for detailed listings of objectives. (www.georgiastandards.org)

Follow Classroom procedures. The study of science requires that procedures be followed carefully. For everyone’s safety, classroom procedures must be followed closely and students must follow directions the first time they are given.
Respect the people, equipment, and furnishings of the class.
Respect for the opinions, property, and privacy of others
Talking and comments only at appropriate times
Stay seated during class unless given permission otherwise
Keep classroom clean
Stay focused on instruction and class activities
Be in your assigned seat when the class begins
Students should be in their assigned seat when the bell rings
Be prepared with supplies and assignments – Students should come to class everyday with all required material:

Three ring binder with loose leaf notebook paper (no larger than 1-inch)
5 dividers for notebook (Labeled in order: 1. Class notes 2. Class/Homework 3. Quizzes/Tests 4. Labs 5. Current Events (The Life Science Curriculum map and State Standards are to be placed in the front of the binder before the dividers.)

Late work – Students will have one day to make up or complete any incomplete assignments. The maximum point allotment will be 70%.
Make-up work- Announced work, such as homework, quizzes and major assessments are due the day the student returns. For each day of an excused absence, students will have one day to make up missed work. If a student is absent under extenuating circumstances, special arrangements can be made to make up work. IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND OUT WHAT ASSIGNMENT HAVE BEEN, AND/OR REQUEST MISSED WORK.
Lab Rules – Follow instructions at all times. For everyone’s safety, misconduct during lab activities WILL NOT be tolerated under any circumstances. If you are not acting responsibly in the lab, you will be asked to sit down and will receive a zero for that lab.
