Title: End of the semester
Posted by:
Previous: Sept. 17-21
Next: Welcome! Jan 14th-18th

This has been such a great semester with all of my students! We have worked really hard on our projects.

The eighth graders were really challenged when they created their box project. They had to use algebra (math in art? COOL!) and perfect craftsmanship to create their project. Students found out pretty quickly that they could not measure even an 1/8th of an inch off or their projects wouldn't work. Let's hear it for kids who could create an engineering project!

Sixth, seventh and eighth graders are completing the Youth Art Month project. In 1961 the United States Congress officially proclaimed March as Youth Art Month. Every year our students create projects based upon the official theme for the state of Georgia. All of the projects will be on display throughout LaFayette during the spring. This year's theme is, "Through the Eyes of Art". So, Mr Gibsons high school shop classes have cut over 200 eyes and glasses out of wood for us. Each student must create two works of art based upon the work of a famous artist. We have very strange and beautiful eyes all over the school. I can't wait until they are all over town!

Congratulations to Holly Mount and Brittany Raines! Their art has been selected to be displayed at the State Capitol building in February! More about this soon!

Congratulations to Olivia Hornik, Helena Yates, Gavin Edwards, Jessica Hubert, Holy Mount, and Brittany Raines! All of these students have art on display at the Foothills Gallery this month. The gallery is located in the historic/arts district in downtown LaFayette. (Just check out the old Long John Silvers). Gallery hours are: T,F,Sat 10-5 and Sun 1-5. Please stop by and see the awesome art our students have created!

Congratulations to all the seventh and eighth graders who created the beautiful fall mosaic. This will be on permanent display in about a month at the entrance to City Hall. The mosaic titled "Fall" will mirror last year's mural "Spring". The "Spring" mural was chosen to be highlighted on a travel brochure for the entire northwest Georgia area. Copies of the brochure can be obtained at Foothills Gallery, City Hall, and various restaurants around town. (I saw some copies at C.J.'s restaurant about a week ago!) You can see the mural for the next week in the entryway of the main campus. There is also a six panel mural at the Academy that students created two years ago. So what is our next project? Another mosaic for downtown of course! Much of our funding for the public murals has come from the LaFayette Downtown Development Association. Thanks for your support of the arts!
