Hope everyone had a great break! This week we will be working on one step equations. It will not take long to go over this concept so I expect to have a test on monday. Thursday we will be having a benchmark test and friday will be a review day.
HW: Tuesday: pg. 68 and 69, problems 6 - 14 and 23 - 29
Wednesday: Finish problems from classwork.
Thursday and Friday NO HW.
One Step equations work like this:
If I had a problem like: x + 8 = 12, we would solve for X. To do that we must get x on a side by itself. So we have to get rid of the 8. To do this we have to do the opposite operation, which in this case would be subtraction. So our new problem would look like: x = 12 - 8, in which x is = 4.
Now if the problem was 2x= 48, that means 2 times x equals 48 so we are looking for what is X? So we do the opposite operation which in this case would be division. Divide 2 to both sides because it cancels out the 2 on the side with the x. The new problem will look like x = 48 รท 2. x is equal to 24. If you have any questions about this concept please let me know.
