Today we will be reviewing for the test that will be on Wednesday. The students have tonight and tomorrow night to study for the test on wednesday. The test will cover the entire unit over probability.

One of the best games that comes on Television is Deal or No Deal. For the next 2 days we will be doing an activity that deals with the probability of the game. This activity will help the students understand probability but will also help them review over how to change a fraction into a decimal and percent.

We have started a new unit over probability. This week we will be working on different activities that go along with probability. On wednesday we will be doing an activity that deal with probability with M & M's. If you can, please buy a pack of M & M's for your child to use. If you can't I will have some that I have bought for them. I expect to have a test over this unit either at the end of this week or next week.
If your child had a bad grade on their progress report, it is probably because of missing assignments. These missing assignment pages are usually HW assignment that are on pg. 69 and pg. 188.

Spring Pictures have come in and will be sent home with students on Friday afternoon.
There are some things you need to know:
1)Each student will receive a package of pictures as long as they were present on picture day.
2) Each student is responsible for EITHER returning any sheets of pictures that you do not wish to purchase and/or payment for any sheets of pictures that you did wish to purchase.
3)I will have each student sign the collection form as they receive his/her pictures to verify that each child indeed received the pictures and that it is understood that pictures are not traded/given away until the pictures have been purchased.
I hope that you enjoy the pictures!

This week we will be working on the Customary Units (for example cups to ounces or pints to gallons). We will be working on this for the rest of the this week and part of next week. We will be having a lot of review HW from now until the CRCT.
This weeks HW is
pg. 243, 6-20

This week we will be starting our new unit. In this unit we will be studying about circles. To start out this unit, we will be having a scavenger hunt to find circles. In this activity we will be finding the circumference of the circles. A circumference is the distance around a circle. We will be working on finding the circumference for the rest of the week. There should not be any HW for the rest of the week. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me an email.

Hope everyone had a great break! This week we will be working on one step equations. It will not take long to go over this concept so I expect to have a test on monday. Thursday we will be having a benchmark test and friday will be a review day.
HW: Tuesday: pg. 68 and 69, problems 6 - 14 and 23 - 29
Wednesday: Finish problems from classwork.
Thursday and Friday NO HW.
One Step equations work like this:
If I had a problem like: x + 8 = 12, we would solve for X. To do that we must get x on a side by itself. So we have to get rid of the 8. To do this we have to do the opposite operation, which in this case would be subtraction. So our new problem would look like: x = 12 - 8, in which x is = 4.
Now if the problem was 2x= 48, that means 2 times x equals 48 so we are looking for what is X? So we do the opposite operation which in this case would be division. Divide 2 to both sides because it cancels out the 2 on the side with the x. The new problem will look like x = 48 รท 2. x is equal to 24. If you have any questions about this concept please let me know.

This week we will be starting Order of Operations. Tonight the students will have homework on pg. 51 problems 1 -15. If you do not know what the Order of Operations is I have an acronym to remember it by. PEMDAS.
1. First you have to answer the problems in the Parenthesis in order from left to right.
2. Answer the exponent problems in order from left to right.
3. Multiply and Divide in order from left to right. You can multiply and divide interchangeably, meaning dividing sometimes might come before before multiplication.
4. Add and Subtract in order from left to right. You can add and subtract interchangeably, meaning subtracting might come before addition.
We will be working on this and one step equations for the rest of the week.
