A. I value daily classwork, homework and assignments we do together very highly. Students have placed in the front of their Writer's Workshop notebooks an "Assignment Log" to keep track of every assignment and their respective grade.
Students receive a daily grade on their attempts at the Daily Grammar Review Exercise we do Monday through Friday and will receive a weekly average in the grade book.
B. They will also be working with stems and have two homework grades and a quiz grade related to the assignments on a regular basis. Quiz grades count twice in the grading system.
C. Tests: Test grades will include occasional large tests covering previously discussed material, large projects, essays, and book reports.
Test grades count three times in the grading system.
D. AR Points: Students will receive one cumulative test grade based on the percentage of 10 AR points they need to earn during the nine-week grading period. Because AR points caught some students by surprise, we are going to do a bi-monthly check and I will include in the electronic grade book the percentage of 2 AR points they have earned every other week. We are also going to put a poster on the wall and add stars as they meet their goals as a visual reminder of their progress. Students will be required to file a book review (available here: ) for each book they complete.
Disclaimer: LaFayette Middle School has started using a new software grading system and the above information might have to be adjusted as the year progresses.
