1/11/08- Finish wordsearch for homework. Will check at the beginningof class on Monday. Start working on flashcards.

1/18/08-Test taken in class today. No homework over the weekend. We start the New South next Tuesday. 
 
1/22/08- Think about who you want to be your partner for the New South newspaper project. 
 
1/23/08- Finish crossword puzzle designs for homework. 
 
1/25/08-New South Newspapers are going pretty well in class. Any student that has access to web resources outside of school is greatly encouraged to use them for this project. 
 
1/30/08-No Homework. Today we covered the Atlanta Race Riots, and we started our photos, captions and interviews for our Newsouth Newspaper. 
 
2/4/08- Finish Interviews. We will begin political cartoons tomorrow. The New South Newspaper activities should be completed by Friday. 
 
2/5/08- School counselors were in class today talking about spreading gossip. No homework. 
 
2/6/08- Started coverage on what a political cartoon is and how to create one. No homework. 
 
2/7/08-Worked on political cartoons, talked about the importance of getting a good education. No homework. 
 
2/11/08- Finish County Unit System of Ga. Map and population data sheet for homework. 
 
2/12/08- Students finished their NewSouth Newspaper today in class, and took a post-test today. I will begin with my coverage of World War I tomorrow. 
 
2/19/08-We concluded our coverage of Georgia's involvement in WWI today in class. I handed back the Newsouth Newspaper grades today, so your child should know how they did on each individual part of the project as well as the final part. I will have the grades updated by tomorrow. I will begin covering WWII and the Great Depression next. 
 
2/20/08-No Homework. 
 
2/21/08-We finished the causes of the great depression today and will continue tomorrow by covering President Roosevelt's New Deal program. There will be a quiz tomorrow over their notes throughout WWI and the Great Depression. Please study for homework. 
 
2/22/08- No homework have a good weekend. 
 
2/25/08-No Homework 
 
2/26/08 Finish the Great Depression reading assignment (p.262-264) if not already completed in class. 
 
3/3/08-Finished WWII today. We will review tomorrow and Wednesday. Test will be Thursday over Great Depression, WWI, and WWII. Students will be allowed to use class notes, so encourage children to look over them, organize and finish so they can use them on the test Thursday. 
 
3/4/08-Test will not be until Friday due to the fact that all classes are not at the same point. Today was a catch-up day. The test friday will be directly out of notes so encourage students to get caught up with notes and organize them in chronological order. 
 
3/5/08-Today we completed a CRCT coach assignment on WWII and the study sheet for the test on Friday. If students did not finish in class they are expected to do so for homework. Test Friday!!!!!!!!! Study!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 
 
3/6/08-Study for your test tomorrow. 
 
3/7/08-Test Today. We also began GPS standard SS8H11. The Civil Rights movement. No homework. Have a great weekend. 
 
3/10/08- Began SS8H11 "Civil Rights Movement" We discussed Brown V. Board of Education. We also took the Q3 Benchmark test in class. No Homework. 
 
3/13/08-No homework. Have a great weekend. 
 
3/17/08- Finished Civil Rights Movement today. Civil Rights foldables are due tomorrow first thing, so if not finished already finish for homework. 
 
3/18/08-Started Georgia state government. Ch.26 vocabulary not finished in class needs to be finished for homework. 
 
3/19/08- Worked on foldables. Finish vocab from class for homework. Students will be able to use it on the quiz tomorrow. 
 
3/20/08- Took Government vocab quiz and worked on 3 branches of government foldable. No Homework. Have a great spring brea, I know I will!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 
 
Week of 3/31/08-4/4/08 We are reviewing for the CRCT test that will begin 4/14/08 
 
Week of 4/7/08-4/11/08 We are still reviewing for the Social Studies portion of the CRCT test that will be next Friday. I have divided the classes up into groups that are competing against each other. The team that has the highest total at the end of the review will be taken out to lunch after the CRCT test is over as a reward for hard work. 
 
Week of 4/14/08-4/18/08- CRCT testing all week. Classes are on a modified schedule for the week due to testing. We are reviewing for the test. 
 
Week of 4/21/08-4/25/08- We are beginning a project on the History of the Amusement park to collaborate with the Amusement Park that the science classes are creating for science night. Students are asked to write a 300 word essay about the topic or create at least a 6 slide long powerpoint presentation. 
 
 
Week of 4/28/08-5/2/08- This week 8th grade students will be going on the trip across GA. All students not attending the trip will be watching the movie The Murder of Mary Phagan and taking a test over the characters on Friday. 
 
Week of 5/5/08-5/10/08- Students will complete work and presentation of history of Rollercoasters/ Amusement parks in class. We will also begin a project about the history of anything the student has ever wanted to learn more about. Schedules will be staggered this week due to scheduling conflicts.

Hello parents and students and welcome to team 8-3. We are delighted to have you on our team this year. My name is Ben Brooks and I am very excited about this school year at LaFayette middle school.
