School Spotlight: Naomi Elementary

At Naomi Elementary School, we feel very strongly that students need to be engaged and feel they belong. Because of this conviction, we emphasize the importance of forming a family connection with our students and work hard to provide students with clubs, teams, and activities in which they can be involved.

Our teachers get students engaged by planning hands-on activities, many of which involve STEM themes that challenge students to think outside the box with their knowledge of math and science concepts while applying their creativity. We have a beautiful nature trail that our classrooms can take advantage of to take their learning outdoors. A few of our STEM projects include a blueberry garden outside that we care for and should be able to begin harvesting in a year. We also have two hydroponics garden towers and one soil garden tower that our students grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers in all school year long.

We offer our students a wide variety of technology to enhance their learning. Every classroom has a SmartBoard for instruction along with desktop computers, iPods and iPads, and a document camera. We also have a large computer lab that classrooms can visit for whole-class technology lessons and time to spend on the wide variety of purchased educational website accounts, such as Raz-Kids, Head Sprout, Moby Max, More Starfall, and SumDog

Naomi students also have the opportunity to join several teams and/or clubs each year. Students in third through fifth grade can apply to join the Naomi Chorus and the Naomi Dance Team. Our fourth through fifth grade students have the opportunity to be a part of the Naomi Rambots LEGO Robotics Team or the Naomi Competitive Storytelling Team. We are currently working on forming some new clubs for the 2016-2017 school year that will be offered to our younger elementary students. Being a part of one of these groups enhances the learning experience of our students and gives them the feeling of being a part of something special.

By offering these experiences to our students, we give them a school family of which they can be proud and a sense of belonging. We feel that these two things are crucial to helping our students stay in school and be ready for college, work, and life. We want to thank all our stakeholders for investing their time and donations to help make these learning experiences a possibility for our students; we truly appreciate you!
