Walker County Schools Superintendent Melissa Mathis and Coordinator of Professional Learning George Cherry recognized the five members of the Walker County Board of Education Monday night for completing Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) training.
GSBA training institutes conduct classes in Georgia's Quality Basic Education Act (QBE), budgeting and finance, current legal and policy issues, and school and community relations in addition to seminars on the roles and responsibilities of school board members.
All five members of the Walker County Board of Education completed courses this summer and received GSBA certificates of recognition at the board meeting Monday night from Mathis and Cherry who praised the members for their commitment to continuing education and serving the children of Walker County.
"By participating in training and board development activities, local school board members show their dedication to improving the educational system for the students within their communities." said Jeannie (Sis) Henry, GSBA Executive Director. "Life-long learning doesn't just apply to our students; it applies to all of us – especially those in a leadership role in public education."
